Devlog 3: Frame to Frame

Faucet Dripping - [10 Frames]

(Technique: Slow-In and Slow-Out)

Tumbleweed Rolling - [8 Frames]

Frame-to-frame Process/Reflection:

The two objects I decided to do frame-to-frame were a faucet leaking and a tumbleweed. The two objects I decided to do frame-to-frame were a faucet leaking and a tumbleweed. Two objects that I thought would fit well in a western style, like maybe using your bucket to get water from a faucet, and of course, dry or desert areas are going to have tumbleweeds.

Faucet Dripping

I felt like the dripping faucet worked well because I only had to focus on the droplets, not really the whole object. As for the techniques I tried to implement, "Slow-In and Slow-Out" where it's stripping slowly out of the faucet at the beginning, and then as it goes down, it gets a bit faster, and then the splash comes in with the little tiny droplets on the side.

Tumbleweed Rolling

Regarding the tumbleweed, I didn't have a specific technique in mind because I didn't want it to do squash and stretch, since tumbleweeds don't really squish and stretch like that; they're just dead, uprooted bodies of different plant species. They're not soft; they mostly just move around, and the twig-like parts or dry roots simply shift around.

The only thing that was difficult about making the Tumbleweed was trying to make it look as close to the same in every frame and making a new frame, rotating it to make it look like it was spinning. It's not supposed to be like a perfect circle or anything, but I wanted the shape to be relatively similar. Some frames of the tumbleweed at the base have harder edges, but for how fast the animation is, I feel like it's not too noticeable. It does what it needs to do, rolling around.

Maybe later on, I'll add some dust effects around it or at the bottom. 💧🛞
